Amazon Bedrock AgentCore Now Supports Event-Driven Ambient Agents with Human-in-the-Loop
AWS introduces support for building event-driven (ambient) agents on Bedrock AgentCore, enabling agents to respond to infrastructure events and incorporate human review via a unified workflow. Developers can now orchestrate serverless, framework-agnostic workflows with HITL and integrate with AWS event sources.
What changed?
Amazon Bedrock AgentCore now supports building 'ambient agents'—agents that act on event streams like S3 uploads, schedules, and alerts, rather than requiring explicit chat prompts. This is enabled by new patterns that combine container-hosted agent runtimes, AWS event sources (S3 events, Lambda, SQS, DynamoDB), and serverless orchestration. It also adds a simple human-in-the-loop (HITL) workflow using a single 'ask_human' tool and a unified job and session tracking interface. The reference implementation is framework-agnostic and deploys with familiar AWS services.

Why does it matter to an everyday developer?
This unlocks a new class of automation for developers: agents that react automatically to infrastructure triggers (like file uploads or scheduled tasks), handle multi-step workflows, and only bring in humans when necessary (e.g., for approval or clarification). This differs from traditional chatbot patterns that rely on direct human input to start conversations, and offers scalable, trust-building deployment with streamlined human review—using one canonical pattern regardless of AI framework or model. Developers working with AWS can use their existing events or extend to custom sources through Lambda.

Assess prerequisites
Ensure you have an AWS account with permission to deploy Lambda, DynamoDB, SQS, API Gateway, S3, ECR, and Bedrock AgentCore. Check that the foundation model (e.g., Claude Sonnet 4.5) is available in your AWS region and enabled in your console.
